A Note About Ballet Attire

It is important that students come dressed for ballet class in proper ballet attire. Ballet clothing is made for students to move freely and comfortably.  The clothing also allows ballet teachers to give accurate corrections on form, body placement, and assess student technique.

Ballet shoes are essential to learning ballet as they provide maximum freedom of movement and articulation of the foot and ankle. Wearing ballet shoes provides students a safe way to explore movement as they are designed to give the right amount of traction and reduce the chances of slipping and sliding on the dance floor.

Ballet attire is required for all students in grades Kindergarten through fourth, and for any student who is majoring in ballet in grades fifth through twelfth. Ballet Majors will receive more guidance on specific ballet attire from their ballet teachers at the beginning of each school year. Contemporary Dance Majors at the Vine Street Campus will also receive a specialized dress code in the Fall.
